The TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) in many respects is just like any other joint but is unique in that 2 joints function together to articulate one bone (the mandible)
Like all joints the TMJ is prone to various forms of arthritis, ligamentous injury and trauma.
Diagnosis of TMJ disorders can be complicated and this is the key to effective management. The typical problems that patients will present with include; pain, restricted movement and noisy joint movements.
Very few TMJ disorders require surgical intervention but identifying which cases will benefit can be difficult for the general medical or dental practitioner.
We are happy to assess and treat all TMJ disorders and when surgery is not the answer are able to direct you to the most appropriate non-surgical therapy.
